What it is
The Junk Turret vehicle mod goes into a vehicle like any other UL mod. A junk turret model appears on the roof and shoots enemies around while you drive or stand nearby. The turret is part of the vehicle: it does not fall off, does not get lost, and is saved with the vehicle.
How many turrets
One mod, one turret. How many fit depends on the vehicle.
| Vehicles | Turrets |
|---|---|
| Motorcycles, minibikes, buggy | 1 |
| Cars, SUVs, 4x4 pickup | 2 |
| Military truck, humvee, minivan, ambulance, quad, railcart | 4 |
| Old minibike, go-kart, gyrocopters, helicopters, mining dump truck, bicycles | none |
On motorcycles with a rear seat the turret sits in the passenger's place, barrel backwards, and disappears while someone sits there.
The vehicle window
A Turrets section appears under the vehicle's usual mods: as many cells as the vehicle allows, with a turret icon on the empty ones. Clicking a turret in your backpack puts it into the first free cell; ordinary mods do not go there. All cells in the window are the same size, four per row.
Shooting
- The shooter is the driver, or with nobody driving, the vehicle's owner within 10 m of it (the turret skill extends that). XP and kills go to the shooter. No shooter — the turret is silent and parks itself.
- Targets are any enemy within the turret's range and in sight of its barrel, nearest first. Several turrets on one vehicle spread over different targets first.
- It never hits your own: the vehicle and everyone in it are transparent to its shots.
- Stats are those of a junk turret of the mod's quality, with your shooter and turret skills.
- Wear comes off the vehicle's health, as firing would wear a turret down.
Ammo
Junk turret ammo — regular, shell and armor-piercing — is taken from the vehicle's trunk only, one round per shot of each turret. Your backpack and toolbelt are left alone. When it runs out you get a hint, at most every 30 seconds.
Where to get it
- Crafted at a tier 2 UL mechanic station, from one junk turret.
- Researched at a tier 2 research station, next to junk turret shells: 250 Engineering and 150 Guns.
- Now and then in vehicle mod loot.
Fine-tuning
Mount points are set for most UL vehicles in mounts.txt; for the rest the layout is worked out from the vehicle's size. To move a turret, stand by the vehicle and open the console (F1): vjt lists turrets and points, vjt x y z [rotation] moves the first, vjt #N … the N-th, vjt save writes mounts.txt. Per-vehicle limits live in turrets.txt.
Before removing the mod, take the turrets off every vehicle: they sit in hidden cells, and without the mod you can neither see nor remove them.
